As per orders of the Delimitation Commission, No. 127 Gosaba (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (SC) is composed of the following: Gosaba community development block, and Maszidbati and Chunakhali gram panchayats of Basanti community development block.[1]
Gosaba (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 19 Jaynagar (Lok Sabha constituency) (SC).[1]

In the 2006 state assembly elections, Chittaranjan Mandal of RSP won the Gosaba (SC) seat defeating his nearest rival Jayanta Naskar of Trinamool Congress. Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Ganesh Mondal of RSP won the seat from 1977 to 2001, defeating Sujit Pramanick of Trinamool Congress/ Congress in 2001 and 1996, Jitendranath Gayen of Congress in 1991, Pramila Biswas of Congress in 1987, Sandhyakar Mondal of Congress in 1982 and Paresh Baidya of Congress in 1977.[5]
Paresh Chandra Baidya of Congress won in 1972. Ganesh Chandra Mondal of RSP won in 1971 and 1969. G.N.Mondal of Bharatiya Jana Sangh won in 1967. [6]Prior to that the Gosaba constituency was not there.
